On our way to Cochrane, Alberta!!! Summer holiday.

Our big trip of the year!  Touring to Cochrane, Alberta, visiting friends and family along the way.

We started out at 7am today.  Beautiful day to drive.  We hadn't been up the 'Sudbury' highway since Randi was at Laurentian University.  A lot has changed since then.  Almost the whole road is 4 lanes. So nice to travel on that.  Also, there were new service centres built.

We stopped in Port Severen for a break and coffee (for Fran).  Had our first big challenge with the rig.  But Al handled it beautifully.  (I had mistaken where the diesel pumps were and we ended up passing them)  He had to make a 3 point turn!  Not an easy feat for where we were but he did it.

Back on the road again.  We made our next stop in Nairn, Ontario to fill up and have our lunch.  We decided to pack our lunches the night before and have them somewhere along the way.  Not only healthy but thrifty too.  (Might lend to more shopping money???? LOL )

Not to far after our lunch stop at 1pm, we arrived at Serpent River Campground.  Right away you could tell it was an old KOA.  Got checked in and found our site.  Al could not get the 30amp service to work.  He went and asked and JR came out to help with all the tools.  Turns out the breaker needed to be replaced and we were in business.

We took a walk about---didn't take to long.  This campground has quite a few seasonal campers and a few transient ones.  It is the beginning of the season here so some of the seasonal people were not even here yet.  It is along the highway, but not to noisy so far.

Here are a few pictures.  I am sure Enviromasters and Al were both thinking the grass needed to be cut!

May Victoria Weekend with Friends

We decided to start the camping season off right with friends.  Darlene McIntosh set up the reservations in the early winter!  She and John, and Dan and Carole Ann MacDonald camped along with us.

We didn't have to travel to far---New Hamburg, Ontario.  Just about the right distance to go for a weekend.  We set camp and before long the others followed suit.  Some of the younger group joined us as well.  Zac McIntosh and his girlfriend Jenny Nancekivell, as well as Josh MacDonald and Katie O'Donnell

We camped at the Nith River Campground  It was tucked away along a country road.  The sites were nice---but the wood for fires was pricey at $15.00 a bag.  Just a tad too much!  The campground was mostly a seasonal one.  It had 7 transient camping sites and 2 rental trailers.  Bingo on Saturday night plus a 50/50 draw.  None of us won.

On the Sunday the girls went in to see Jenny and Zac's new home and we thought we would do some shopping but the only thing opened on the Sunday was the grocery store, deli, and the dollar store.  We did not get to save the men money ;)  It was a good tour none the less.

Darlene---the game girl----brought what I call Hang Toss.  We did a round robin tournament with Al and Darlene winning.  The losers Zac and Chop were suppose to finish the teeny weeny bottle of Fireball but once Zac got a hold of it --- it was gone!  We also played marbles that Chop brought--it was made by Michaud Toys---great game boards.  If you have not heard of this company go to the website you will not regret anything that you purchase!  Then later, by the fire we played the Ellen game, Heads Up.  That was so much fun plus some other camp fire games.

I also thank the young girls for making Peach Sangria.  It was good---maybe a bit potent for this old broad, but could become a favourite drink!

Good time had by all.  A great long weekend.
