You know that Nipigon bridge that caused traffic havoc last year? Well we did cross over it. It was back even to where it needed to be. The people in the know, still don't know why it dislodged itself on one end. (Thank goodness on the only east-west road that goes all the way across Canada)
We pulled into KOA Thunder Bay. It is actually in Shuniah, Ontario. It is on the east side of Thunder Bay right on the Trans Canada Highway. We were fortunate to get a spot for 2 night in the back, furtherest away from the highway!! We went for a walk and there are a few seasonal sites. And there are some cabins too. Good pull in sites for us! Easy---no backing up!!
After we set up camp we decided to tour Thunder Bay. Al was here 5 years ago when he brought his old truck from Saskatchewan home. He stopped here as to have a visit with Mae Bunt a friend of the family. We wanted to see her today but she was not home. However, we did find a Casino and donated 10$ each. Ha no big winners!!!
From there, we went to the Terry Fox Memorial. There is a nice visitor centre located right by it. Staffed by 3 young girls ---we found out that Thunder Bay has 2 craft breweries. We had time to go back in and 'tour' the Sleeping Giant Brewery. The tour involved sampling 6 different beers. We bought Northern Logger and 360' Very good beers.
After supper we went for a walk then watched TV. A quiet night.
June 3 Thunder Bay
We slept in (well, I did until 830). Had our breakfast and made our lunch and headed out for the day. We went to Ouimet Canyon. Beautiful. It is a gorge. We hiked in to the looking pod. Now if anyone knows me you know I don't like heights. I did go up to the fencing!!! A cool looking rock formation there is called Indian Head.
Next on the list were the suspension bridges in Eagle Canyon. Well, I was not going to go across these bridges. One was 300 feet and the other 600 feet in length. Al decided that he would. It has a 20$ entry fee to go. (so not worth it for me) He got some beautiful pictures which I will post later.
Our last sight seeing was the Amethyst Mine. We did not dig for any jewels, just shopped the store. No big jewels bought, but Al did get a stone to have. You can purchase massive garden stones there thought would be cool to have!
Back to Thunder Bay we did find Mae at home. We had a nice visit with her. Got caught up on her children, grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. On our way home, we have been invited for supper with her and her daughter Joanne.
We are on our way to Fort Francis tomorrow.
Our set up of the trailer and closing down is getting fairly efficient. The gas mileage---what can I say? ....................
